2016-10 ELC attends European Parliament Workshop on Food-related Risks and Technologies to Increase Food Safety

Moderated by Sabine Jülicher (Director for Food and Feed Safety and Innovation at DG SANTE), the workshop started with a keynote speech delivered by Commissioner Andriukaitis, who stressed that “decisions must be based on the best available science” and called for further research on food reformulation to improve the consumers’ diets. MEP Giovanni La Via then stressed in his introduction speech the importance for politicians to closely follow the scientific developments in order to improve the law making process. This was followed by two sessions: the first one was dedicated to food related risks and the second one dealt with metrology and technologies to increase food safety.
