2019-12 EU Specialty Food Ingredients at the 41st Session of the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU)
EU Specialty Food Ingredients' delegation attended the 41st Session of the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) which was held from 24 till 29 November in Düsseldorf, Germany.
During the year EU Specialty Food Ingredients contributed to the development of Codex standards and guidelines in several electronic working groups established within the CCNFSDU for 2019, and participated in the physical working group meeting on the mechanism / framework for considering the technological justification of food additives used in foods for infants and small children, which was held ahead of this year’s Session on Saturday 23rd November.
During the Session, besides the recommendations for the mechanism / framework for considering the technological justification of food additives, the Committee discussed the recommendations prepared by the other working groups where EU Specialty Food Ingredients actively participates: e-working group on the review of the Codex Standard for Follow-up Formula, on the Development of a Guideline for Ready to Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF), and on Nutrient Reference Value Requirements (NRV-R) for older infants and young children.
Apart from the topics with designated working groups, the busy agenda of the Session included also other items closely followed by EU Specialty Food Ingredients, namely a proposal for General guidelines to establish nutrient profiles, discussion on nitrogen to protein conversion factors for soy-based and milk-based ingredients, reduction of trans fatty acids as well as a proposal for a new work on harmonized probiotic guidelines for use in foods and dietary supplements.
