2024-11 EU REFERENCE LABORATORY FOR FOOD IMPROVEMENT AGENTS

On 1^st August 2024, Sciensano (Belgium) was appointed by the European Commission as the EU Reference Laboratory for Food Improvement Agents (EURL FIA).

As EURL FIA, Sciensano has the following responsibilities:

• provide scientific and technical assistance to the European Commission;
• coordinate and supervise the network of National Reference Laboratories (NRL) for food improvement agents across the European Union;
• develop, improve and implement the analytical methods, harmonising the evaluation criteria for food improvement agents in the network of national reference laboratories;
• organization of interlaboratory tests to evaluate the performance of the NRL.
