“Specialty Food Ingredients are part of the solution to reduce food waste” explains EU Specialty Food Ingredients at DG SANCO’s Advisory Group Meeting on Food Waste on 8th May 2014
EU Specialty Food Ingredients illustrates with several examples the potential of specialty food ingredients to reduce downstream losses and explains that the sector is able to develop innovative ingredients in order to increasingly contribute to sustainable food processing. The Federation supports the conclusions of the 2013 STOA Report on Technology options for feeding 10 billion people, i.e. “Regulations are necessary to guarantee the safety of food products. It is, however, important to monitor if these regulations don’t hinder the innovation and application of novel options in food industry for sustainable food processing”. For this purpose EU Specialty Food Ingredients explains that a holistic regulatory approach to innovation is needed.
