Structure

EU Specialty Food Ingredients, an international non-profit organisation and an observer in the Codex Alimentarius Commission, was founded in 1983. In 2009, the organisation reviewed its activities, scope and best practices, extended its membership to corporate companies, and was re-launched as the ‘Federation of European Specialty Food Ingredients Industries’. Originally known as the “ELC”, our federation changed in 2017 its abbreviation to “EU Specialty Food Ingredients”. This new abbreviation speaks for itself and makes the federation easier recognisable as THE voice of specialty food ingredients in Europe.

Its Board, representing both member associations and member companies meets on an annual basis, spearheads three committees – Communications, Food Improvement Agents, and Nutrition. These oversee a number of active working groups, each with dedicated members focusing on topics including Health Claims, GMOs, Re-evaluation of Food Additives, Labelling, Trade, Processing Aids and Nanotechnology.

The secretariat, appointed by the Board, is responsible for the general day-to-day management of the organisation, including event planning, group communication and public representation.

EU Specialty Food Ingredients identification number in the Transparency Register is 6160532422-38.
