2022-06 World Food Safety Day 2022
EU Specialty Food Ingredients is pleased to join today the celebrations for World Food Safety Day, established by the United Nations to inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks.
We all want our food to be safe. 2 in 5 Europeans take a personal interest in food safety, with 50% considering it an important factor when buying food[1]. This is why all actors in the food chain share a clear responsibility to increase sustainable production of safe food, an essential aspect and guarantee of human health and well-being.
Specialty food ingredients can actually contribute to the safety of foods. Take preservatives as an example. In food they prevent the development of harmful or even life-threatening levels of microbiological spoilage. This leads to extended shelf life and a reduction in food waste. Antioxidants are another example. They prolong the shelf-life of foods by protecting them against oxidation.
